Who can get a flu vaccine?

The flu vaccination is offered free of charge to people who are:

• Those aged over 65 years old (including those becoming age 65 years by 31 March 2021)
• Those in a clinical risk group such as those with:
  • Chronic (long-term) respiratory disease, such as severe asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or bronchitis
  • Chronic heart disease, such as heart failure or chronic kidney disease at stage three, four or five or chronic liver disease
  • Chronic neurological disease, such as Parkinson’s disease or motor neurone disease
  • Learning disability
  • Diabetes
  • Splenic dysfunction or asplenia
  • A weakened immune system due to disease (such as HIV/AIDS) or treatment (such as cancer treatment)
  • morbidly obese (defined as BMI of 40 and above)
• All pregnant women (including those women who become pregnant during the flu season)
• Household contacts of those on the NHS Shielded Patient List, or of immunocompromised individuals, specifically individuals who expect to share living accommodation with a shielded patient on most days over the winter and therefore for whom continuing close contact is unavoidable
• Those who are in receipt of a carer’s allowance, or who are the main carer of an older or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if the carer falls ill
• Health and social care staff, employed by a registered residential care/nursing home or registered domiciliary care provider, who are directly involved in the care of vulnerable patients/clients who are at increased risk from exposure to influenza.

About the Programme

Our flu vaccination programme will take place during the Coronavirus pandemic so we have made some changes to the way we will be offering your vaccinations this year. In light of the risk of flu and COVID-19 co-circulating this winter, it is absolutely essential you book in for your flu vaccination to protect yourself and support the resilience of the health and care system.

With this in mind the GP Practices of Hyde have decided to set up a drive thru and walk-in vaccination clinic for patients over 18, at Healthy Hyde Team, British Gas site, Hattersley, SK14 3QU. For those under 18 years of age, please ring your GP practice to book a vaccination. This will ensure your safety and maintain social distancing. ALL VACCINATIONS MUST BE BOOKED IN ADVANCE THIS YEAR BECAUSE OF SOCIAL DISTANCING RESTRICTIONS.

Please be aware that as the flu programme continues, the government will be expanding the groups of people who are able to book an appointment. If you are aged between 50-64 and don’t have a long term condition, please note you may be able to get a vaccine later in the flu programme but this is unlikely to be before the end of November.
